I'm not even going to comment on the fact that my last post was April 6th. Not.A.Word!
The kids and I joined my parents this weekend on a road trip to Dallas for my cousin's 40th surprise birthday party. The plan was to leave early Friday morning so that my mom could take care of her business in the Design District while my kids and my aunt went to lunch at the Hard Rock Cafe (requested by Jack, of course) and a trip to the aquarium. We were all very excited to take my one week old NEW CAR (Ford Flex....box on wheels..LOVE IT!).
The kids did great...the drive was comfortable...everyone was having a grand ol' time until.....Molly began complaining of a headache. A headache...at age 3. We arrive at my aunt and uncles and as soon as we are out of the car Molly is completely back to normal. After unpacking our bags we pile back into the family truckster to head to Dallas. I tell my mom she can drive since I don't really know where we are going. Not to far into our trip Molly begins complaining of her headache again. I was riding in the back with her when I saw her face turn a very unpleasant shade of green and before I could find anything to help it happened. puke. a lot of it. in my NEW CAR! She was so scared and so sick that all I could do was grab paper towels and try to clean her up while comforting her while riding in the back seat on the highway to Dallas. (Thank you mother for bringing a roll of paper towels with you. You are my hero!)
We call my aunt who is driving her car to Dallas and she has already left the house. Because of course, we had already unpacked our bags so we had no extra clothes with us. My aunt stopped at Target and bought Molly new clothes. She meets us in the design district and we get Molly cleaned up and changed into fresh clothes. My parents take my aunts car to meet some clients while my aunt and I ride with the kids. Molly insists that she does not want to go home, but wants to eat lunch and go to the aquarium so we head to the Hard Rock. We settle into our booth at the Hard Rock and Molly says she isn't hungry and lies down on the booth . I quickly realize that lunch is not in our future and tell our waitress that we won't be able to stay because Molly wasn't feeling very well. It was right then that I glance over at Molly and I see her hands covering her mouth and I know very quickly what is coming. What can I do? the restroom (where my aunt is) is at the back of the restaurant and I don't have enough time to make it there. So I make the executive mommy decision to let Molly throw up in the booth. Right there....at the Hard Rock Cafe. Luckily we had a very understanding waitress who brought me not only wet towels, but also a big plastic bag to take with us just in case. I carry Molly out to the car in her new outfit from Target that is now completely covered in puke. This now makes 3 restaurants that Molly has thrown up in. My 7.5 year old has only thrown up twice in his entire life! We head back to Denton and decide to save the aquarium for another day.
Molly rests at my aunt's house for a couple hours before bouncing back to her normal self. Or so I thought! She begins to complain on a headache.again. So I head to the store for some Childrens Motrin (since the always prepared mommy forgot it this trip). As soon as I return from the store Molly looks at me with that unpleasant green tint to her face and says "Mommy....I'm gonna puke again!". Luckily we made it to the toilet this time.
I'm happy to say that she was completely 100% healthy Saturday and we made it not only to the aquarium, but also to my cousin's 40th surprise party where he was completely surprised!
Being the uber-prepared mom that I always am (yeah, right) I picked up Children's Dramamine at the store in Denton. So the ride home was pleasantly uneventful. Carsickness? a virus? whatever it was I'm glad it's over. I still can't believe that my new car was already christened with puke.
